security for former mayor daley, have filed a federal lawsuit involving mayor emanuel. the officers were removed from his security detail, when emanuel took office. they say they were replaced with officers who volunteered on his campaign. if true, it's a violation of chicago's shakman decree... which prohibits political considerations in most city hiring decisions. the city's law department called the lawsuit "baseless." it'll be a new option for camping... on a prime piece of real estate in chicago. mayor rahm emanuel and the chicago park district announced today... northerly island park will undergo a major restoration this november. the mayor says this transformation will turn the area into an urban, camping hub for hundreds of families, children and at-risk youth. the total budget for the restoration project: 4.3 million dollars. the project is expected to be completed in the spring of 2014. a plan to turn the old chidlren's memorial hospital into condos and stores ... has been rejected. a chicago-based company wants to build three mixed-use buildings on the six acre site in lincoln park. 43rd ward alderman michele smith says residents are against the current plan. she says it does not address long unresolved problems of traffic congestion and overcrowding in local schools. smith says the developer has been open to community feedback... and she expects a revised plan to be submitted soon. company officials have not commented on the rejected proposal. there will be some high-speed action at the lakefront this weekend... with chicago's air and water show. as
