Scots Guardsman and Galatea will steam across the Dales this summer

AS the country starts to reopen following a forced shut-down, it is full stead ahead for two historic engines which will be heading through Yorkshire each week between May and September. “Scots Guardsman”, Number 46115, is set to pull both the Dalesman and Pendle Dalesman excursions over the spectacular Settle-Carlisle line, regularly voted one of the greatest railway journeys in the world. And “Galatea”, Number 45699, will haul the Scarborough Spa Express through York to the East Coast seaside resort. Coupled up behind each of the heritage locomotives will be West Coast Railway’s carefully renovated vintage railway carriages which date back to the old British Rail days of the 1950s.

Historic locomotive Bahamas to visit Basingstoke this summer

A HISTORIC locomotive is set to visit Basingstoke this summer as part of a tour across the region, giving enthusiasts a chance to spot the Jubilee class engine. Steam locomotive number 45596, known as Bahamas, will visit Basingstoke on August 5, on its route to visit Bournemouth and Weymouth as part of the Dorset Coast Express. With lockdown restrictions easing, dozens of historic steam-powered trains will take thousands of people on nostalgic days out across the country. Bahamas, a Jubilee Class locomotive, was built more than 85 years ago for London Midland & Scottish Railways. Following extensive restoration, it returned to mainline running in the North of England 2019 only to have to return to the engine shed to bide its time for over a year due to the pandemic.
