Arizona GOP Chair: ‘All on the Shoulders of Vice President Mike Pence’ in Elector Fight
Arizona GOP Chairwoman Kelli Ward, a co-plaintiff in a lawsuit against Vice President Mike Pence, described the suit as a “friendly” one.
In an update on Tuesday, Ward attempted to clear any misconceptions about why the lawsuit was being filed. “We love Vice President Mike Pence, we love him,” she said, adding that it is a “friendly lawsuit.”
Earlier this week, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) filed a lawsuit in a federal court in a bid to grant Pence the exclusive authority to decide what Electoral College votes to count during the Jan. 6 Joint Session of Congress. All 11 of Arizona’s Republican electors joined the lawsuit, along with other Republicans.

Electors had already cast their votes two weeks earlier. Biden received 306 electoral votes 36 more than he needed to win while Trump received 232.
The suit asks federal Judge Jeremy Kernodle, a Trump appointee in eastern Texas, to declare that Pence has the exclusive authority and sole discretion to decide which electoral votes from a given state should be counted.
While pro-Trump electors in some states Biden won have symbolically cast their own ballots, experts say those votes carry no legal weight.
The Republican complaint claims that part of the 1887 Electoral Count Act should be declared unconstitutional as it clashes with the 12th Amendment.

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) and President Donald Trump s defeated electors from Arizona may force Vice President Mike Pence to publicly pick a side in Trump’s bid to overturn his 2020 election loss.
Gohmert and a handful of the would-be electors sued Pence in federal court on Monday in a long-shot bid to throw out the rules that govern Congress counting of electoral votes next week. It’s an effort they hope will permit Pence who is tasked with leading the Jan. 6 session of the House and Senate to simply ignore President-elect Joe Biden s electors and count Trump s losing slates instead.

A group of Republicans led by Rep. Louie Gohmert on Monday sued Vice President Mike Pence in an unusual gambit aimed at overturning President-elect Joseph R. Biden’s election victory next week.
The lawsuit says Mr. Pence has the “exclusive authority” to decide which electors should be counted when Congress meets Jan. 6 to finalize the results of last month’s presidential election.
