Tensions escalated in the city’s Brighton Park neighborhood during a meeting Tuesday evening over a proposed encampment for approximately 2,000 migrants.  

As the migrant crisis grows, Mayor Brandon Johnson's office confirmed its intent to turn a Brighton Park lot into a camp for migrants in Chicago.

Up to 2,000 asylum seekers could be placed in the shelter if the site clears final assessments. Residents expressed concerns over safety at Tuesday’s meeting. But one 92-year-old resident urged compassion. “We have to have kindness, peace and not be against each other, because we are America,” she said.
