Charles corporal dies of COVID-19

A Charles sheriff’s corporal who died of COVID-19 complications this week is the first police officer in the area to die from the virus, as the tri-county region’s law enforcement agencies say the virus has not led to any major outbreaks. Master Cpl. Robert Cadrette, 51, who had worked at the agency since 1998, died in the early evening on Dec. 5, due to complications from virus, which had killed at least 212 people in Charles, St. Mary’s and Calvert counties as of Tuesday, according to the state health department. Cadrette had started out in the patrol division, later moving to criminal investigations where he worked in financial crimes and the special victims unit before moving back to patrol and property management.

welcome back. i m stephanie ruhle. you re watching msnbc where we have breaking news. joining me now on the phone is corporal julie yingling of the st. mary s county sheriff s office. corporal, please give us an update. good morning. we are currently working a school shooting at great mills high school here in st. mary s county. i don t have a number on wounded or injured at this point. all i can tell you is the sheriff s office is on scene. we have it contained. school is still on lockdown. and we are working on getting these students and their parents reunified. at this point, we re going to be using town high school auditorium. communication at the james forest technical center. if you have it contained, is the shooter in the high school? at this point, i don t know, i m not on the scene, i can t comment on that.
