Juneteenth Fireworks News Today

June 19 celebrates the anniversary of the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States following the Civil War and serves as a symbol of freedom for the Black community. The Pitt News has compiled a list of events occurring in Pittsburgh this month dedicated to the celebration of Juneteenth.

Organizers with Stop the Violence Pittsburgh say the decision comes because of a dispute with park rangers who oversee Point State Park.

Juneteenth was made a federal holiday last year and now the City of Grand Rapids will allow residents and visitors to light fireworks.

There will be fireworks during Jackson's Juneteenth celebration, after all.
