Disneyland has revealed its course correction for its Jungle Cruise attraction in Anaheim, California, and Walt Disney World in Florida, that removes racially offensive depictions of Indigenous people.
The changes to the popular ride, one of the original attractions overseen by Walt Disney himself when Disneyland opened in 1955, will be officially opened in the Florida and California locations on July 16, with visitors able to take the new Jungle Cruise during the soft opening.
Disney Parks announced the changes in January following criticism of the Jungle Cruise portrayal of Indigenous people, vowing a revamped attraction that would reflect and value the diversity of the world around us.

Transporting guests to the jungles and rivers of Africa, Asia, and South America, this scenic safari is known for its visual gags and irreverent skippers. When the opening day ride makes its return to the marquee next Friday, you might notice some new additions. âWe feel very strongly that our (updated attractions) still tell the same story and have the same look and feel to them,â says Kim Irvine, executive creative director of Walt Disney Imagineering. âBut, I think itâs important to not be able to go through (an) attraction and tell you whatâs behind every corner. To have new surprises and new added elements that are maybe more relevant to todayâs world and todayâs stories. As Iâve always said, itâs got to be just as good, if not better.â

The Jungle Cruise, located in both the California and Florida parks, is a river boat attraction that takes park-goers through waters in Asia, Africa and South America with their tour guides skippers narrating their journey along the way.
