Sri Lanka : Body of Muslim COVID-19 victim placed in cold storage until the Ministry order

Dec 21, Colombo: Galle Additional Magistrate Pavithra Sanjeewani Pathirana today (21) ordered that the body of a Muslim male who died of coronavirus infection while residing in the Deddugoda area in Galle be kept in a cold storage without cremation. The Additional Magistrate made this order when hearing the complaint filed by the relatives of the victim against the decision taken by the Acting Coroner of the Galle Teaching Hospital to refer the body to cremation following the recommendation of the forensic pathologist that the death was due to coronavirus. The deceased was an 84-year-old Muslim male. The father of three died of a heart attack after being hospitalized with coronavirus infection.

Sri Lanka : President instructs to resolve prisoners' issues humanely

Dec 10, Colombo: Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa Thursday Instructed authorities to look humanely at grievances of the prisoners and address them immediately by providing necessary assistance. The President noting that more than 12,000 people are incarcerated due to drug addiction, emphasized the need to immediately formulate a rehabilitation program for them. The President made this observation at a special discussion held at the Presidential Secretariat this morning (10) to probe the shortcomings and problems in the prisons and to recommend solutions. The President instructed to explore the possibility of constructing prisons under the pre-fabricated system in the currently identified locations to alleviate congestion inside prisons.
