A Houma man serving 12 years in prison after being convicted of burglarizing a Bayou Blue store is entitled to a new trial, the state Supreme Court ruled.
A Lafourche Parish jury found Michael Young, 36, guilty of simple burglary in 2018. A judge then sentenced him to 12 years behind bars.
He was convicted of burglarizing BJ’s Country Store No. 3 during the early morning of June 13, 2016.
An intruder threw a brick through a glass door to enter the store and then stole a cash register, police said. Investigators were able to identify Young after learning he had bought gas the evening before from another BJ’s store across the street.
