Asks complainant to record his statement before the police in an earlier FIR
In a temporary relief to political leaders H.D. Kumaraswamy, D.K. Shivakumar, and G. Parameshwara, the High Court of Karnataka on Wednesday set aside a separate first information report (FIR) registered against them for holding a demonstration in front of the office of the Income-Tax Department, Bengaluru, in March 2019 based on a private complaint.
However, the court gave liberty to complainant Mallikarjuna A. to record his statement as a part of another FIR registered in connection with the same demonstration.
Justice John Michael Cunha passed the order while allowing the petitions filed by Mr. Kumaraswamy, former Chief Minister, and Dr. Parameshwara and Mr. Shivakumar, former Ministers, who were part of the demonstration held to protest against the Union government for alleged “selective” searches conducted by the I-T Department on political leaders of Opposition parties.
BS Yediyurappa
THE KARNATAKA High Court on Tuesday refused to quash a 2015 corruption case against Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa over an alleged illegal denotification of government land and came down heavily on the state anti-corruption agency Lokayukta police for failing to complete investigations into the case over the past five years.
Yediyurappa had approached the High Court in 2019 with a plea to quash the corruption case taken up by the Lokayukta police in February 2015 based on a private complaint filed in a court in 2013 by one Vasudev Reddy. The complaint was over a decision Yediyurappa took when he was deputy chief minister in 2006 to allegedly release a parcel of government acquired land to private persons.

It pulls up Lokayukta police for delaying investigation
In a setback to Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, the High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday rejected his plea challenging the probe ordered against him by the Special Court for Lokayukta cases in a corruption case related to alleged illegal denotification of a parcel of acquired land when he was serving as Deputy Chief Minister during 2006.
While castigating the Lokayukta police for not conducting the probe against Mr. Yediyurappa between February 18, 2015, and April 2, 2019, even though there was no stay order of the High Court operating during this period, the court observed that there was “intentional and deliberate” delay on the part of the Lokayukta police.
