The National Judicial Council (NJC) has said it would probe the issues surrounding the certified true copy (CTC) of the Kano State governorship election appeal at the Court of Appeal in Abuja. This was disclosed by the officials of the NJC on Tuesday during a visit to the headquarters of the Media Trust Ltd in Abuja, Daily Trust reports.
The Kano State Government has stated that the Court of Appeal's claim about the error on the Certified True Copy (CTC) of its judgement on the state’s governorship election is “unacceptable and scandalous”. The court had sacked Governor Abba Yusuf and declared the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Nasiru Gawuna as the winner of the March poll. But a CTC of the judgment emerged on Wednesday, affirming Yusuf’s victory.
The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of seven suspects for protesting the Court of Appeal judgment that affirmed the sacking of Governor Abba-Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). According to the State Police Commissioner, Hussaini Gumel, on Wednesday night, the seven protesters were arrested on Wednesday, around Kano Line while heading towards State House Road “We have succeeded in stopping the protesters and we have arrested seven of them.
Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, one of the lead counsels to Kano State governor, Abba Yusuf, has rejected the request by the Court of Appeal Registrar’s to alter the Certified True Copy (CTC) Judgment out of time. The Court of Appeal Deputy Registrar had on 22nd of November 2023 written a request to the governor’s lawyer, seeking to retrieve the CTC of the Judgement obtained by the SAN’s Law Firm on 21st of November 2023.
There is currently pandemonium in some major areas in Kano State as thousands of residents are protesting the sacking of Governor Kabir Yusuf by the Court of Appeal. The police personnel are trying to disperse protesters along the Dan Agundi area of the state. The fresh protests followed the Certified True Copy of the judgement which appeared in public domain and seemed contrary to the verdict of the appellate court.
