Salada labels regulatory environment as hostile to its business model

The management of Salada Foods Jamaica Limited has asserted that “the decisions of the Jamaica Agricultural Commodities Regulator (JACRA) to delay and deny permit requests for the importation of raw materials forced the use of higher-priced raw materials to manufacture some flagship products . Salada further noted that JACRA s decision had the effect of driving up manufacturing costs and reducing operating profit. For the period ended September 30, 2020, Salada reported revenue for the year of $1.067 billion, down from $1.113 billion at September 30.  2019. Export sales buoyed the fall out in revenue from the domestic market due to the global pandemic, directors said in statements attached to the year’s results.
