Synopsis
Justice Suresh K Kait directed the Delhi government to file an application before the competent authority for protecting the witness in the murder case under the said scheme within one week from June 2.

The high court further said that the competent authority shall take a decision within one week of filing of the application and till a decision is taken, Delhi Police would provide protection to the witness.
The high court said it was not commenting on the merits of the case.

The Delhi High Court on Monday granted bail to a man accused of being part of a mob which brutally attacked a police station, during the riots in north east Delhi last year, which resulted in the death of a head constable and grievous injuries to two senior police officers.
Justice Suresh K Kait granted the relief to the accused for the reasons that the fourth charge sheet has already been filed in the case, trial shall take substantial amount of time and the petitioner, who was in prison since November 2020, cannot be made to languish behind bars for an indefinite period of time .

New Delhi: The Delhi police told the high court that a plea moved by the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student and Pinjra Tod activist Devangana Kalita, accused in a case related to northeast Delhi riots, seeking copies of videos of protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) was not maintainable.
The issue regarding the maintainability of the plea was raised before Justice Suresh K. Kait by additional solicitor general S.V. Raju, appearing for the Delhi police.
