Armageddon. The fact that some republican nominees in past years and as recently as this past june have sided with the liberal wing of the court more often than i would like is not in any way restoring democrats to hysteria. Each time a new republican nominee is introduced. I thought we had reached an alert point to years ago the nomination of Justice Kavanaugh who had months of character assassination at the hand of democrats. But it turns out that was not. We reached a new low as i said madam president s no surprise the democrats have reacted with hysteria at the prospect of President Trump nominating and other Supreme Court justice. It was disappointing, but hardly surprising yesterday the democrat leader blocked a key Intelligence Committee hearing on elections security, atopic he has repeatedly insisted is of overwhelming importance to protest the thought of the senate filling its consent role in confirming a principal conservative woman. Even speaker pelosis overwrought statement
Views that make her nonqualified to serve. President trump has said he would only nominate someone who would overturn the Affordable Care act, taking away Health Care Protections for more than 100 million americans. Both President Trump and members of the majority on this committee have said they would only vote for a nominee that would overturn roe v. Wade. As i will lay out in my questioning this week, we should not be having this hearing with two members of the committee infected with covid. It is rushed, constitutes court packing, and her views are too extreme to qualify her to serve on this court. If elected, will you try to change one of the three branches of government by adding the number of justices on the court . Can he hold out on that issue for three weeks . For the coming week, what i am holding out is hope that there are still two more republicans that might join with the republicans who have already said based on what they did four years ago in refusing to give a hearing
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome provost strom. [applause] good evening. It is my very great pleasure to welcome you to Memorial Church for this years lecture on a Meaningful Life. Honored we are deeply to have as our speaker associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States Ruth Bader Ginsburg. [cheers and applause] this event, as you may know, has a rich history at stanford. Lecture that in a inry rathbun, a professor the 1930s through the 1950s, decided to give on the last day of his class one spring. The lecture was such a success that it turned into an annual tradition at stanford for many years until professor rathbun retired. It was revised in 2008, supported by a generous gift to the office of religious life by the foundation for Global Community which established the henry and Amelia Rathbun fund for exploring what leads to a Meaningful Life. Each year, a rathbun visiting fellow selected to come to stanford to deliver the lecture and spend time with our faculty,
To nominate her replacement after those services, possibly friday or saturday. The president demanding Senate Republicans fill Justice Ginsburgs vacancy without delay. Moments ago President Trump appeared confident that his choice will be confirmed before election day. Well, id much rather have a vote before the election because theres a lot of work to be done, and id much rather have it we have plenty of time to do it. I mean, theres really a lot of time. So lets sea i make the announcement say i make the announcement on saturday, theres a great deal of time before the election. Thatll be up to mitch and the senate, but id certainly much rather have the vote. I think it sends a good signal, and its solidarity and lots of other things, and im just doing my constitutional obligation. I have an obligation to do this. Lou and there is plenty of precedent for a swift confirmation. If President Trump were to send his nomination to the senate by this weekend, he would have 38 days before ele
Washington ok it has get right to it David Mcconnell said hell have a vote on the nominee really havent before election day. I think hes going to do everything he can to push it through before election day because i think the stakes larry are incredibly high and fraught for the republicans if they went after the election when you know if that only speak believe doll trouble be a losing president and Senate Republicans will have lost their majority in the senate but the reality is this is a this is a dangerous political calculus for the majority leader because what hes really doing fundamentally is pushing through a Political Force a nominee whoever that person is who is deeply unpopular with the American People 60 percent of americans including nearly half of republicans hope want the next president not this president but the next president to be the one who gets to decide who will replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg or on the Supreme Court and so its a deeply unpopular thing in this because d
