Onondaga County sheriff’s office could have body cameras by end of May, county executive says

The cameras could be deployed soon after that, McMahon said at a briefing this afternoon.
Sheriff Eugene Conway is expected to turn in a proposal for body cameras by the end the day, county officials said.
The initial estimates put the cost at $450,000-500,000, McMahon said.
Once Conway’s plan is turned in, McMahon’s office will put a final price tag on the program, said Justin Sayles, McMahon’s spokesman. Legislators will vote Tuesday on the proposal to give the sheriff’s office money, he said.

Utica, N.Y. The Whitesboro school district has returned to in-person classes today after a Covid-19 exposure from a dance competition forced remote learning on Tuesday.
“We will be resuming in-person learning for all students who are not under any mandated quarantine or isolation protocols on Wednesday, April 21,” said the website of the district, one of Oneida County’s largest.

Like an arena’s worth of hot concert tickets, the vouchers for Onondaga County’s new restaurant gift card program “sold out” today in less than five hours.
There are no more vouchers available for this round of the Keeping It Local program, County Executive Ryan McMahon reported at about 3:30 p.m. today on Twitter. The vouchers had been available starting at about 10:30 a.m.

Picente said it’s the worst outbreak in the county since the pandemic began.
“This is our largest cluster, our fastest cluster, and we’re a year into this,” an obviously frustrated Picente said at a news conference. “When 300 people are quarantined, people have to stay home from work, some businesses have to close, schools have to close.”
