Two youths who saved people from drowning and a girl from Punjab who rescued four children from a burning vehicle were among those conferred the bravery awards on Friday by an organisation working for child rights.
Ranchi: Several organizations on Thursday formed a human chain while maintaining social distancing between Albert Ekka Chowk and Sarjana Chowk here demanding a CBI inquiry into the alleged suicide by sub-inspector Rupa Tirkey.
The protest was held to mark one month of the alleged suicide. Notably, Tirkey, a tribal woman who was posted as officer-in-charge of the women police station in Sahibganj district, was found hanging in her official quarter on May 3.
Police state that prima facie it was a case of suicide. Tirkey’s parents, however, say there are indications that their daughter was murdered and expressed no confidence in the police investigation.
Ranchi: Investigation into the death case of sub-inspector (SI) Rupa Tirkey has revealed that an SI named Shiv Kumar Kanaujia allegedly harassed her, which led to her suicide, and the latter has been arrested in this regard, police said on Sunday. “Prima facie it appears that Kanaujia is responsible for the suicide of the officer,” a statement by Sahibganj police read.
Sahibganj SP Anuranjan Kispotta said, “Kanuajia had an affair with Tirkey. But later he started harassing her. A case under Section 306 of the IPC has been registered in this connection and our investigation is underway.”
Kanaujia was posted at Toklo police station in Chaibasa district. Police said technical evidence suggests that Tirkey (26), who was found hanging at her official quarter in Sahibganj on May 3, killed herself due to personal issues with Kanaujia.
