Batik Sabah: A state s pride and joy

KOTA KINABALU, 8 February 2021: Sabah Tourism Board’s latest travel blog presents holiday themes for travel consumers who are planning trips post-Covid-19 focusing on the states’ colourful batik pioneered by small communities using techniques unchanged for centuries.    Typically hand-drawn, traditional and full of patterns are the words used to describe the classic decorated fabric we know as ‘Batik’ that is synonymous with the cottage industries of Southeast Asia. Batik is created using a wax-resist dyeing technique believed to be an ancient art originated from Java.  Historically, Batik is usually adorned as ‘sarong’ among the ladies to complement a traditional top and considered as a daily wardrobe staple. Nowadays, we often received an invitation to a formal or exclusive event with Batik as the suggested themed attire.
