July 9, 2021 Lyna Mohamad Increasing knowledge of women’s rights among villagers is needed to fight sexual grooming and abuse, said Acting Village Head of Kampong Bukit Udal Muhd Azmi bin Muhd Yusof at an awareness raising event last Sunday. Muhd Azmi said topics on sexual grooming and incest are important to discuss for the good of the community. He said that in the 1950’s, women were expected to manage the kitchen and were not able to go to school. Now, women have equal opportunities with men and hold higher positions in the office together with men and they have the right not to be bullied, he said, citing a recent incident of a father who raped his two daughters.

MAY 21, 2001 – Dusun community’s traditional festival Adau Gayoh held at Kampung Bukit in Tutong yesterday attracted not only locals but also foreign tourists. The event, grandly celebrated and organised jointly by the Kampong Bukit and Kampong Long Mayan Village Consultative Council committees, also showcased traditional musical performances as well as handicraft exhibition. A tourist who spoke to the media said she was enthralled by the musical instruments and other accessories for the various demonstrations of native cultures, especially local ethnic food items. Another tourist Nicky was totally engrossed with the workings of the local Dusun game trap, meant for bird and smaller animals such as mousedeer and deer.
