Basic income and the climate crisis

In a book titled The Moment the Question Becomes the Answer, Lee Won-jae, a critic on the economy, talks about his childhood when he lived on Sorok Island in South Jeolla Province. Most of the residents there were people with leprosy, and they were provided with housing, food and medical care. In other words, they did not need to earn money in order to survive.
However, they sold their agricultural products by doing small-scale farming, received wages by helping out at a hospital, volunteered at a church, and participated in religious activities at a Buddhist temple. Lee saw that even though the basic conditions for survival were guaranteed, people found meaningful work to do.
