Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is carrying out the development and management of sustainable food estate in an effort to maintain national food security.
Minister of Public Works and Public Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono, said that the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has warned of a food crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to face this challenge, the ministry is implementing sustainable food estate development and management to increase food security while supporting national economic recovery by providing jobs for people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, said Minister Hadimuljono in a statement received in Jakarta, Sunday.
Two provinces food estate development should be completed in 2021 11th January 2021
President Joko Widodo (center) Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) urged the Ministry of Agriculture to complete preparations for food estate development in North Sumatra and Central Kalimantan by 2021.
In his opening remarks during a national working meeting on the 2021 Agriculture Development at the State Palace here on Monday, the head of state was sanguine that other provinces would emulate the food estates in North Sumatra and Central Kalimantan.
In Central Kalimantan, the food estate is planned to be located in Kapuas District and Pulau Pisau, spanning an area totaling some 164.6 thousand hectares. Rice planting is planned on the land that was earlier a peatland project area.
