Renowned education reformist and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, leading a hunger strike for Ladakhs statehood and Sixth Schedule inclusion, appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to fulfill promises. With his climate fast in its 21st day, Wangchuk urged Ladakhis to vote carefully in upcoming elections. He reminded Modi of BJPs electoral promises and emphasized the importance of citizen power.

Wangchuk’s fast has been supported by various socio-political bodies in Ladakh, including the Kargil Democratic Alliance.

Over the past 20 days, Wangchuk said, around 60,000 of Ladakh's 3 lakh residents have participated in the hunger strike demonstrating their pain but "no word came from this government"
