Shivpal Yadav`s name was missing in the list of campaigners released by the Samajwadi Party released ahead of the Assembly elections.

In an indication of the closing of ranks within the Mulayam Singh Yadav clan, the Samajwadi Party has named ally Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohiya) chief Shivpal Singh Yadav in the new list of star campaigners.

Polling started at 7 am in Uttar Pradesh, with 59 seats going for a vote in the third phase of elections. In Punjab, the polling started at 8 am, as 117 assembly votes are going for a vote in a single-phase exercise. Stay tuned for live updates.

All 117 seats of Punjab and 59 constituencies of Uttar Pradesh went to polls on Sunday.

Karhal is a part of Mainpuri district but is located close to veteran Samajwadi Party (SP) founder Mulayam Singh Yadav's native village of Saifai and has been a stronghold of his family and the party for the last several decades.

Voting will be held on all seats in Punjab and 55 assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh tomorrow. Senior leaders of all parties made a last-ditch attempt on Friday to woo voters.

A day before the third phase of voting in the ongoing Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state unit chief Swatantra Dev Singh on Saturday said that the party is seeking votes on the basis of the work done by the Narendra Modi government at the Centre and the Yogi Adityanath headed state administration.

The Chief Minister during his address in an election rally in the Karhal Assembly constituency in the Mainpuri district on Friday had said that the Ram temple will be a Rashtra Mandir for India.

Polling will be held on 117 Assembly seats in Punjab from 8 am to 6 pm and 59 seats in Uttar Pradesh from 7 am to 6 pm.
