Kashmir has seen a slight improvement in minimum temperatures during the Chilla-i-Kalan, the regions harshest winter period. Srinagar recorded a low of minus 3.3 degrees Celsius, while Pahalgam in Anantnag district recorded a low of minus 4.8 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg, the ski resort in Baramulla district, was the warmest place in the valley. The cold conditions have led to freezing of water bodies and water supply lines, forcing residents to wear extra layers of clothing.

Kashmirs Chilla-i-Kalan, the 40-day harshest winter period, has begun with temperatures dropping several degrees below freezing point in many places. Srinagar city, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 4.3 degrees Celsius on Tuesday night. The cold wave has led to freezing of water bodies and water supply pipes in some areas.
