Extreme climate is a big challenge for the Indian Railways, and will pose a problem once the Jammu-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express becomes reality. 

Addressing a press conference at Nowgam railway station, Ashwini Vaishnaw said the Udhampur-Banihal track, connecting Jammu with Srinagar, will be completed by December this year, or early next year.

Kashmir valley will finally be connected with the rest of country through train service by the end of this year or early next year.

Train Service Suspended In Kashmir Till 16 June According to an order, the train services from Banihal-Baramulla were scheduled to resume from June 9, 2021. However, the order reads that the Inspector General of Kashmir (IGP) Kashmir through PCR Kashmir has demanded the further cancelation of train operation over the Baramulla-Banihal section from 10-06-21 to 16-06-21.
