Queensland Rail’s A/CEO, Kat Stapleton, said: Queensland Rail is prioritising the safe restoration of services on the Mount Isa line between Charters Towers and Townsville. Personnel have been onsite since Wednesday morning and recovery efforts with heavy machinery are anticipated to commence tomorrow (Friday, 1 January 2021). An update from Queensland Rail Acting CEO, Kat Stapleton: A freight train transporting fertiliser has derailed near Charters Towers on the Mount Isa line this morning (Wednesday, 30 December 2020). The drivers onboard were uninjured, however a number of wagons have been impacted. As a result, the Mount Isa line is closed to all rail traffic between Charters Towers and Townsville.
