yet another atlantic city casino could be heading for bankruptcy. now in terms of gaming space, trump taj mahal is atlantic city's second largest casino. >> tonight, its future is in jeopardy as its sister casino prepares to close. >> trump plaza will shut down september 16th. revel and showboat, as you know, closed earlier this week and the atlantic club shut its doors back in january. >> ted greenberg live tonight in atlantic city and ted, explain what this means for trump taj mahal. >> reporter: jim and renee, a gaming analyst tells me this could actually be a positive sign, indicating that the tash wants to stay open, but he says talk of more casino troubles here, still bad for atlantic city's image. >> i am very upset. i mean, i do. i love the trump. >> reporter: debbie and her husband stay at the trump taj mahal two days each month but on this visit to atlantic city, they learn their favorite casino might be on the brink of bankruptcy. >> i hope they come around. >> reporter: the now closed showboat and revel casinos are neighbors of the taj mahal. in its most recent quarterly report to the new jersey division of gaming enforcement, the tash warns if it's up able to achieve significant revenue increases and improvements in its operating rules, the company will have difficulty funding operations. mentioned as a possible remedy, a restructuring of its business. the "new york post" reports the tash could be headed for bankruptcy within days, unless it request quickly reach a deal with its lenders. >> it means that a property wants to restructure its books, its finances, while maintaining its ongoing operation and that's good thing. >> reporter: the trump casinos have gone through the bankruptcy process multiple times before. according to the post, the taj mahal has recently broken some of its loan covenants. we don't know what those financial obligations might be, but in its filing with the state, the taj mahal says it intended to defer payments of property taxes indefinitely so it can use that money for other business purposes. experts believe the damage will benefit once its sister property shuts down. >> the trump has the ability to shift the customers from the plaza to help trump taj mahal. from that standpoint, we would expect the taj mahal, at least from the operating perspective, to be stronger. >> reporter: i called trump entertainment resorts, i asked a spokesman if the damage is headed for bankruptcy, but he had no comment. live tonight in atlantic city, i'm ted greenberg, nbc 10 news. >> by the way, donald trump's name may be on the casino but he is not happy about that much. the donnaed is suing to have his name taken off trump plaza and taj mahal. the properties are in disrepair, hurting the trump name and brand, he says. one point, trump's name was on three casinos in atlantic city but the trump marina became golden nugget in 2011. trump doesn't run or control the casinos himself but he has a 10% stake in trump entertainment resorts. we reached out to donald trump on twitter today but we haven't heard back. another atlantic city casino that is already closed may be going back to court. a popular nightclub inside revel is trying to stay open. lawyers with the hq nightclub and hq beach club filed documents with the u.s. bankruptcy court. they are seeking an injunction to keep the club open. the owners say they have the right to continue operating these venues. stay with nbc 10 for continuing coverage on the casino crisis. we have an entire section on nbc10.com devoted to the impact on atlantic city economy. a lot of fanfare today in center city where dill worth plaza is now dill worth park. dedicated this morning. the $55 million renovation project began in 2007 and now, there's a new cafe and a computer-controlled fountain that uses recycled rain water and there are two more days of special events planned at the park and in the winter, there will be ice skating there as well. meanwhile, a different landmark in the city is going away, market east has changed its name, starting today, the train stop in center city near the gallery will be called jefferson station after the nearby university and the medical center. septa charged the hospital almost $4 million for the right to post its name and logo at the station. the deal lasts for five years but could be extended for a price even longer. tonight a setback for the prosecution in the trial of a woman accused of kidnapping a little girl from a philadelphia school. >> nbc 10's christine maddela was in the courtroom. she is live in center city. christine, this has to do with police not reading the suspect her miranda warping? >> reporter: that's right. the jim in this case this afternoon granted the defense attorney's request to throw out one of christina regusters' statements to police because the police officer did not read regusters her miranda rights when he arrested her. that came after the jury listened to testimony about dna evidence. >> prosecution today presented critical evidence in linking christina rig gustors to this crime. >> reporter: tom klein represents the victim's family in the civil case, been in the courtroom every day listening to testimony in the criminal trial. . >> there were other items found in the house that were tested, including poles, including rugs, including other items. but the key item that we heard about today was saved to the very end by the prosecution. >> reporter: that key item was the t-shirt the victim was wearing when she was found. christina regusters' dna was found on it. but regusters' attorney argued the experts who testified couldn't pinpoint when or how regusters' dna got on the shirt. >> is she guilty or not guilty? i can't figure it out yet. the evidence is not enough yet. >> reporter: this case captured the public interest. in the courtroom, several spectators stop in each day. >> i became obsessed with the case. >> you're hooked? >> i'm here every day. i'm here every day. and i'm -- and i got it figured out, i got to see the end result. >> reporter: she is a student who now wants to help victims like the 5-year-old in this case. >> this case makes me want to be a lawyer all together. >> reporter: this afternoon, we just learned christina regusters' aunt as well as her boyfriend will take the stand for the prosecution tomorrow. those two people lived with regusters when the prosecution alleges that regusters held the young victim in that house after she kidnapped the little girl. reporting live outside the criminal justice center, christine maddela, nbc 10 news. next on it be ten news at 6:00, a crazy tweet from the governor of delaware, how his office is explaining this suggestive photo he posted on twitter. i'm tracking storms that could arrive during the weekend. tell you when the weather could interintoer with the maps in my exclusive nbc 10 first alert forecast. and we are remembering joan rivers, the trail blazing come immediate yep died at age 81. up next, new details about an investigation into the clinic where rivers stopped breathing. celebrity colleagues and as meyers are remembering joan rivers tonight and leaving flowers on her hollywood star. the comedienne and fashion critic died in a new york hospital this aft nearen with her family by her side. tonight, her daughter, melissa rivers, says her mom's final wish would be that everyone returned to laughing soon. rivers went into cardiac arrest during surgery last week and has been hospitalized since. meanwhile, new york health officials today opened an investigation into the clinic where rivers was having the surgery. we are told she went into yorkville endoscopy for minor throat procedure on august 28th and stopped breathing. for more on the investigation, as well as a look back at joan rivers' life, legacy and a photo gallery of her career, logon to nbc10.com. other news now, police say a 911 call that prompted a big police response in a western pennsylvania high school, it was just a hoax played by a 9-year-old child who police say the young girl told the dispatcher on tuesday someone was killing people at st. mary's high school in elk county. police and fire crews from all around the county responded to the school. they searched room to room until declaring the school all clear. police came back to campus yesterday to make sure that students felt safe, even though it was a prank. >> even the point where it st t started to apparent searches were going on this was a hoax, this wasn't the real thing that didn't stop this -- the process as far as it goes into it was concluded and the final came up, it was for sure. >> police are convinced the child wasn't aware of the consequences of her actions and she is only 9 years old. she can't be criminally prosecuted but she could still face some other form of punishment. happening now the trenton city council is poised to vote on reversing a law been on the books for decades. >> if this vote goes through, trenton will be able to give people city jobs without forcing them to live in trenton. >> nbc 10's south jersey reporter, cydney long, in council chambers cydney, these are high-ranking jobs. what happens? >> reporter: renee, city council is expected to vote on the employment residency law at any moment now, i can tell you, i just came down stairs from the chambers, it was not just on their agenda. so, no vote has happened just yet. i did spend the day talking with city council members who say allowing people to take jobs from outside the city of trenton may be the first step in getting city departments back on track after a failed and corrupt tony mack administration. these are top-level positions that had numerous departments within the city of trenton. as we dug into the job openings today, we found a depleted workforce. take a long. the numbers prove it. right now, trenton has 175 job openings, police, 65 openings, fire, 16 and public works with 66 job availability. not to mention 27 positions within seven other departments. >> a work, leadership we had before was a corrupt leadership. >> people from other areas come in and they are not paying the taxes that we are paying and stuff. >> reporter: the change to the law will build a stronger and hard-working staff here in trenton in these departments. some lower ranking positions, some members of the sewer department we talked to on the street say that is simply not fair that it would only be afforded to those high-ranking officials in those executive positions. we will certainly keep in touch with these council members by phone tonight to see which way this vote goes and we will have it for you tonight on nbc 10 news at 11:00 after the game. that is the latest live in trenton tonight, i'm cydney long, nbc 10 news. governor chris christie is continuing his trade mission in mexico today, in a closed door meeting in mexico city with ceos of leading next cap companies. christie is also seeing several mexican cabinet members and signed a higher education agreement tonight. he will go to a working dinner and tour the basilica of our lady of guadalupe, one of the city's more most cherished catholic sites. ready for some football? looks like the timing for the eagles game on sunday is going to be pretty good. temple and penn state, going to feel like july for those folks. hot and humid weather is coming back, friday and into saturday. we are tracking some thunderstorms, especially for saturday and that eagles forecast, looking pretty good. a lot more comfortable than saturday. that's for sure. it's 84 degrees right now. humidity's not too bad. feels like 85. our high today was 87. gonna go up a few degrees for tomorrow. it's 86 right now, allentown, bluebell, 85. in reading, 82 in wilmington. 80 degrees in clayton. the temperatures are already starting to go down, 86, northeast philly. and 70s right at the shore. look at that, ocean temperatures, 78, almost warm enough for me to go in there. as warm as it's been all summer. it is still dry all up and down the east coast, the moisture is getting a little bit closer. some of it's going to be coming up from the south. now, the only significant moisture tonight i think is going to be right near the ground. so, we will have low clouds, maybe some fog by tomorrow morning. and then as we go into the afternoon with that high humidity, we may pop up a couple of showers here but nothing widespread. nothing close to being severe. not even talking about thunderstorms for tomorrow. now, saturday is a different story. you want to get stuff done saturday, in the morning. looking dry here. but not going to stay that way. we have a front coming down, we have heat, we have humidity. some showers popping up earlier in the afternoon and then here comes this front, with potential line of showers and thunderstorms, there is 8:00 on this particular timing could come in an hour or two earlier than that. and clear the shore by 11:00. so, we are talking about a limited period of some really stormy weather that will not continue into sunday. much lower humidity along with the lower temperatures for the eagles game and not a whole lot of wind either. doesn't get much better than that, considering the way the pattern has been. low clouds coming in later tonight with fog, too. 71 degrees for the low, hot and humid tomorrow, a chance of a shower popping up, fog first thing and then temperature near 90 degrees, there's temple and penn state, play in heat and humidity and showers possible, especially early in the afternoon and then even more thunderstorms later in the afternoon, but it's all gone by sunday. temperature drops 10 degrees, the humidity plum et cetera and so it's pretty comfortable and then, that front's gonna stall to our south and there may be some rain coming up the coast at some point next week. hi, i'm amy fadool. in sports, eagles just days away from kicking off the season, as you saw there in hurricane forecast. see why nick foles says they are not quite ready. that ahead. right now, i know her final wish would be to return to laughing soon." too soon for many fans here in new york city i'm chris pollone, nbc 10 news. joan rivers has several ties to the philadelphia area and suburbs. women have more on them coming up at 5:30 a double homicide rocks a philadelphia community, neighbors telling nbc 10 they feared something like this was going to happen, the have i can tims were found dead inside a house. nbc 10's harry hairston is tracking the latest developments, live in our digital operations center. harry? >> reporter: keith, radioity now, police are telling me the two men were brutally murdered and only identified them as men in their 20s. of course, on this story from the beginning. skyforce10 over allen grove street near east god fry avenue in philadelphia's lawn crest section. this is where police say the landlord entered her property and found the two men and called 911. police are telling nbc news that both men were shot to death. the neighborhood block captain tells us this is a known drug house. the block captain says they complain to police about the alleged drug problem for about a year. >> yeah, the block captain, just moved out of that neighborhood on tuesday, she lived next door, right next door, she said she couldn't take it anymore. it's scary. >> reporter: police on the scene we talked to say they wish they had known about the problems at the home before. again, at this hour, police say they have no suspects and no motives and they plan to identify the victims some time tomorrow. keith? >> harry hairston reporting for us live in the digital operations center. a south jersey man charged with murder tonight in connection to a woman's death at his mother's house last year. prosecutors say timothy donnelly shot kathleen corpsal while she was house sitting last september in gloucester township, camden county. police say donnelly stole jewelry, other valuables from a safe, too. investigators say donnelly's mother had nothing to do with the crime. from our delaware bureau, a wilmington police officer shot in the face last year had a close call with gunfire during another police chase. kenyatta jackson and sean mitchell were arrested after police say mitchell didn't obey a traffic stop then led police on a chase. during the pursuit, jackson allegedly fired shots from the passenger seat at the two officers. one of those officers was justin wilkers, shot in the face in february of last year during another chase. wilkers lost his hearing in one ear and can't close one eye. frederick gray was sentenced to life in prison for that shooting earlier this year. delaware, new arrests in the fight against illegal drug trafficking. new castle county police arrested 23-year-old shante parker yesterday. investigators say she was selling heroin and marijuana out of a harper club apartment in newark. the arrest comes after a long investigation in drug sales in the area. parker faces several charges. eight young teens and an 18-year-old man accused of vandalizing a sports complex in cape may county. police found graffiti marks and also racial slurs, profanity, hate-filled messages the memorial field last week. all eight teens and william voucher are facing charges of  criminal mischief, criminal trespass and harassment. police say the damage could amount to nearly $100,000. the trial for a philadelphia woman accused of kidnapping a 5-year-old girl and sexually assaulting her continued today with a warning. the judge told christina regusters that if she had another outburst in court like she did yesterday, she would have to watch the proceedings from a video feed. much of today's testimony centered around dna evidence. two forensic experts for the philadelphia police department testified about the evidence they checked from regusters' home as well as the t-shirt the little girl was found in. regusters' defense attorney argued the dna experts couldn't pinpoint exactly where or when regusters' dna got on the shirts. the revel hotel and casino may be closed but a popular nightclub inside is trying to stay open. lawyers for the hq nightclub and hq beach club filed documents with the u.s. bankruptcy court. they are seeking an injunction to keep the clubs open. the owners say they have the right to continue operating the venues. happening tonight, the philadelphia housing authority is holding another public meeting for neighbors near an old apartment high rise that is set to be imploded. the queen lane apartments in german town will be leveled one week from saturday. at last week's meeting, residents voiced their concern over damage to the property, cents and air quality. tonight's meeting is from 6 to 8 at new mariah baptist church. happening this weekend, organizerses for next year's meeting of world of families in philadelphia will unveil the official prayer, an iconic image for the event. video of the philadelphia delegation at the vatican earlier this year. preparing for a possible visit from pope francis. archbishop charles chapuis will unveil and bless the prayer and image this sunday. the ceremony will take place during corruption case. the former governor and his three children reportedly burst into tears when the guilty counts were read. the couple is accused of accepting $170,000 in gifts and loans from the ce of a dietary supplement company in ex-charge i can for favors. he left office in january and indicted two weeks later. bp's reckless conduct resulted in the worst offshore oil spill in u.s. history. the ruling today could quadruple the civic penalties for bp for polluting the duck in 2010. the oil giant has already agreed to billions of dollars in criminal fines. the spill from the deepwater horizon rig spewed oil for about three months, 11 men were killed when the well blew. princeton university is considering creating a team of trained investigators to look into campus sexual assault accusations. faculty committee made the recommendation after the u.s. department of education said it was looking into how sexual assault cases were handled at princeton and 54 other colleges. other changes would include allowing victims and their attacker present at disciplinary hearings. the university officials say the changes will bring princeton in compliance with federal standards. columbia university in new york, a student is putting the spotlight on campus sexual assaults by carrying around her dorm room mattress. she claims she was assaulted the first day of her sophomore year, but the case against her alleged rapist was dismissed. emma and 22 other students filed a federal complaint saying the university is too lenient with alleged offenders and discourages victims from borough told him it likely wouldn't be granted. the marketing station in center city gets a new name today and in return, septa is given a big chunk of change. marketing will now be called jefferson station after the hospital three blocks away. the hospital paid $3.9 million for the five-year deal but has the option to extend the name change for an additional four years. most of the money goes septa. soon, the hospital will offer shuttle service from the station to all of its nearby facilitiesb another hot day today, warmer in some spots, the humid is at least not unbearable through the area. as we go into tomorrow, the heat and humid the return, so tomorrow is expected to be a little bit hotter than today and that even goes into the beginning of your weekend. also for the start of so the showers you should around the great lakes, this will be moving in as we go inmainly 770. the humid air coming in overnight tonight and tomorrow. it will get more humid as we end out the weekend and the rain comes starting mainly saturday, our best chance of thunderstorms. we could have a few showers tomorrow. we stay dry the rest of today. friday, we see more clouds going into the morning hours, into the afternoon tomorrow, there's a chance for a few showers, hot, quite a bit of humidity around. few showers possible, as we go into saturday, you notice we have a little more in the way of cloud cover, by the middle of the day, mainly dry, through the evening hours, we could have a line of thunderstorms moving through, so, by even 9 p.m. saturday, we could still be seeing some heavy at 5:30, death of a hollywood trailblazer. joan rivers known for her late-night talk show comedy and her red carpet commentary died this afternoon at a new york hospital. the 81-year-old was hospitalized last week after going into cardiac arrest during a throat procedure. her daughter, melissa rivers, says she died today surrounded by family and close friends. joan rivers was a household name, of course, across the country but also had several connections right here in our area. >> nbc 10's renee chenault-fattah is live in our digital operations sent we are more on those local ties a lot of them, renee. there sure are, keith and jacqueline. joan rivers, it turns out, was a regular, everybody knows on the westchester-based qvc, where she sold her line of jewelry and clothing. we went on the qvc website today and found several pages of her products for sale. despite her tv and comedic fame, rivers made her fortune with the qvc network through her hosting duties as well her brand. rivers worked with the home shopping network for 24 years. now, nbc 10's lu ann cahn is on her way to westchester no you to talk to current qvc employees who worked alongside joan rivers. you will hear from some of them at 6:00. now, rivers' daughter, melissa, also has ties to our area. melissa rivers, the actress and comedienne, attended the university of pennsylvania. she graduated from there in 1989. in a statement, melissa said -- now, one final tie to tell you about in our area, didn't know about this, turns out joan rivers' oldest sister lived for many years right here in ardmore, pennsylvania. barbara cushman waxman was a prominent attorney in delaware and month comery county. she died last summer and is buried in bala cynwyd. live from the digital operations center, headlines at 530, a judge admonished kidnapping suspect, christina regusters, after her outburst in court yesterday. regusters was warned if it happened again, she would be forced to watch the breezings from a video feed. philadelphia police are looking for who killed two men in a lawn crest home. they were both shot to death. skyforce10 over allen grove street near east godfrey avenue. neighbors tell us this home has been a problem for months because of drugs. new at 5:00, a police officer in chester county is credited with saving the life of a fellow officer during a police chase that ended on some train tracks. get a led of this. the officers were responding to a burglary at the sneaker den in thorndale yesterday. they found the suspect in a wooded area behind the store, ran after them, that's when the guy took off. their chase ended on train tracks nearby, when the officer and suspect got into a brawl, it was then that the other officer noticed the high-speed amtrak train approaching. the officer and suspect were pulled off the tracks seconds before the train sped by. the police chief praised the officer for his quick actions and for bringing the suspect into custody, not to mention they recovered several thousand dollars in stolen merchandise and cash from the store. state police say the body of a montgomery county woman was found in a chester county lake. the body of 35-year-old jessica alford was found late last night at marsh creek state park in upper uk lynn township no word on who found alford or how she died. state police are still investigating. philadelphia police are looking for the suspect who shot up a pair of cars in the kensington section. investigators say last friday afternoon, the map you see in this video fired shots the two cars on east monmouth street. the window of a home was hit by the gunfire. thankfully, no one was hurt in that incident. some of northern delaware's worst-performing public schools are getting extra attention and money. governor jack markell announced the program on the steps to of the warner elementary school building in wilmington. warner is one of the six schools that will be in this program. it will dedicate $5 million to finding solutions to some of the state's most troubled schools where test scores are the lowest. >> so this is an opportunity to get the ball rolling, to push that big ball in front of us, get children where they need to go, no matter what they come from, what's occurring, these challenges have to be met. >> administrators of the school will have to submit their plan to the state for approval. funding for the four-year program will come from federal school grants and race to the top funding. of course, we continue to follow breaking knew the death of charged with a weapons violation for owning a gun, even though he is a convicted felon. he pleaded not guilty. morgan was arrested when he tried to return to the u.s. after a failed attempt to get into syria. he wanted to find and join eyes circumstance the group that recently killed two american journalists. today, attorney general eric holder announced the justice department will investigate the ferguson missouri police department. federal investigators will look at the department's practices for a matter of years leading up to the shooting of an unarmed african-american teenager, michael brown, by a white police officer. nbc 10 national correspondent, brian mooar, has the story from washington. >> reporter: thanks, ferguson is two-thirds african-american but only has four african-americans on its 53-person police force. federal investigators say that's not evidence in itself of a problem but it is one thing they will be looking at. the ferguson, missouri, police department found itself in a harsh thatsal spotlight after the fatal shooting of unarmed teenager, michael brown. and now, the department is the subject of a sweeping federal investigation. >> determine whether ferguson police officials have engaged in a pattern or practice of violations of the united states constitution or federal law. >> reporter: attorney generaleric holder ordered the investigation after visiting ferguson and hearing firsthand complaints that suggesteds systemic problems. >> our investigation will assess the police department's use of force, including deadly force. it will analyze stops, searches and arrests. and it will examine the treatment of individuals detained at the ferguson city jail. >> reporter: ferguson officials say they are cooperating. i take no personal offense to it at all. in the end, the justice department is going to try to improve the quality of policing nationwide. >> reporter: race and community relations is a critical concern for a department that is mostly white in a community that's mostly african-american. >> we've about making strides the past several years to improve that and i would hope that department of justice will recognize that. >> reporter: this investigation is just one of several surrounding the shooting that triggered a national debate about race, deadly force and the law. the justice department says this investigation could take a few months to complete. in washington, brian mooar, nbc 10 news. a ga pa happen whose son died after being left in a hot car is now charged with murder. a grand jury today indicted justin harris on multiple charges. harris says he forgot he was supposed to drop his 22-month-old son off at day care june 18th after leaving work. seven hours later, he said he remembered that he left his son in the car. he pulled into a parking lot and tried to revive him. prosecutors claim harris killed his son because he wanted a child-free life. well, another nice day today a lot degrees, 82, mill i will have, cooler along the immediate shore, more of an onshore wind. shore points only in the 70s now, locally, nice and dry, plenty of sunshine, back off to our west though, moving through the great lakes, you see a lot of moisture here, this will move in as we start off the weekend. before that, as we go into tomorrow, we are gonna get the humidity coming in with it or ahead of it, so tomorrow will be a hot or humid day to end out the week, a chance we can see a couple of showers because of it. future weather does keep us dry for the remainder of the evening tonight, early tomorrow, we should stay mostly dry in the morning hours, we could be dealing with a little early fog. during the day, humid, pop-up showers across the area in the afternoon. start off the weekend, here is a look at saturday, this is saturday at noon. i think we will have areas of sunshine certainly through much of the day, but then, we will see a line of thunderstorms move through mostly late saturday afternoon or early evening lasting through saturday night, but quickly clearing out as we go into sunday, for the eagles game, actually going to shape up nicely, the timing of the rain will be putting in so that the eagles game is going to be on the dry side. by 1 p.m. sunday, mid-70s, breezy, pretty nice, more sunshine developing throughout the day and nice conditions with that lower humidity setting in only the 70s for the eagles. a cbs we go into tomorrow along the shore, more humidity, around 780 degrees, chance of a shower saturday, late thunderstorms, 80 degrees, it will be hot and saturday the shore saturday, 80 at least warmer and humid. sunday, we are down into about the mid-70s along the shore. for tonight, clear, early clouds building in late with a chance of fog late, to 71 in philadelphia. temperatures in some spots the low 90s, chance of a shower through the day, more like a pop-up shower but then as go into saturday, that's when we will see the thunderstorms, most late in the day saturday, 91, the high temperature with humidity, sunday, much less humid, around 80 degrees, we will see a lot of clearing on sunday and starting off next
