Lithuania’s Kaunas transforms into Nazi-occupied Paris for BBC drama / K. Karlonė
Kaunas has been chosen as the shooting location for BBC‘s Rise of the Nazis second season. With TV host Andrius Rožickas playing the main role of Adolf Hitler, the series will take the viewer through such famous spots as Soboras, Žaliakalnis funicular, and Kaukas stairs.
The year is 1940. Adolf Hitler arrives at the Les Invalides in Paris to visit the grave of Napoleon, but instead of Paris, the action takes place in Kaunas.
Lithuania s second-largest city has become the filming location for the season two of BBC‘s Rise of the Nazis. Episodes filmed in Lithuania will cover the historical period from 1940 to 1943.
Lithuania Wins Best European Film Location in 2020

VILNIUS: The Pažaislis Church and Monastery Complex was awarded Best European Film Location in 2020 at an online Berlinale ceremony on 2 March 2021.
The Location Award nomination is organised by EUFCN (European Film Commissions Network). A record number of 28 European film locations and regions were nominated for the awards in 2020. The Pažaislis Church and Monastery Complex was introduced to the Commission by Kaunas Film Office. In 2018 it was used in the four-part TV miniseries by HBO and Sky
Catherine the Great, starring Helen Mirren.
Lithuania continued to attract numerous foreign film productions in 2020 due to the Lithuanian Film Tax Incentive, including: the 4th season of the Netflix series
