Over 100 Northwestern University Graduate Workers union members marched from The Arch to the Rebecca Crown Center as part of a “March for Fair Funding” on Thursday. The demonstration comes after some rising sixth and seventh-year graduate workers said University administration informed them earlier in May that Advanced Student Quarter funding, an internal fellowship offered.
The Northwestern University Graduate Workers launched a pledge Monday to strike if the University does not meet its remaining contract demands. The meeting had record-high attendance, with more than 1,000 graduate workers from the Evanston and Chicago campuses joining in person and over Zoom, organizers told The Daily. Northwestern University Graduate Workers reached four tentative agreements with the University in their eleventh bargaining session with administrators Wednesday. The agreements include union security, non-discrimination, management rights and a “no strike/no lockout” clause — NUGW’s final language proposals. The Graduate Student and Postdoctoral Parent Peer Support Group met Wednesday at the Women’s Center to present survey results that revealed a gap between their caregiving needs and resources provided by Northwestern. The group outlined plans to advocate for increased stipends and subsidized healthcare in partnership with the NU Graduate Workers Union. The survey found.
