Chrysler Corporation didn’t sell the most-ever DeSoto cars for 1956, but it produced arguably the most handsome DeSoto cars ever.
After a banner year for both sales and style in 1955, the new 1956 models were absolutely stunning. The cars had received a facelift, but it was a significant facelift.

DeSoto’s grill was now almost Thunderbird-like, sporting a chromed grin that made the car look lower and wider. Jutting out of the grill were two chrome spears that held parking lights. The headlights were single units; double headlamps wouldn’t come until 1957. But the single lamps almost appeared to be jumping out of the car’s body, suggesting great movement.
