Yarona FM builds gym for Gaborone West community May 25, 2021
Through its annual Fat Boy challenge community development initiative leading commercial radio station Yarona FM has built an outdoor gym for the Gaborone West community.
“Community development is important because it provides the foundation a city builds off of to improve the lives of its citizens. It creates strong, diverse communities that are able to attract and keep talent, start and grow businesses, and overcome issues that arise. The importance of community service lies in the fact that it connects us to the community by improving it, and making it a better place for all of us to live in,” said Yarona FM Station Manager Kelly Ramputswa.
OFFICIAL OPENING: Minister Rakgare opens the BIMC
The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Culture Development, Tumiso Rakgare has confirmed that the Botswana National Arts Council will be established in three months.
The youthful Minister, also known as Chilliboy, announced this when officially opening the two-day Botswana International Music Conference (BIMC) hosted in Gaborone last week.
The National Arts Council was one of Rakgare’s promises when he assumed the Ministry’s top position back in November 2019.
“After countrywide engagements with music bodies, I am pleased to inform you that we are almost done with the structures and establishment of the Arts Council. In fact, I can announce that the arts council will be fully functional by July. The importance of the council is for it to address concerns of the creative industry as my office is often inundated with concerns and ideas from the creative industry,” he said.
FACING COURT: Robbie-Rob
The sour relationship between Yarona FM and its former morning show host, Robin Chivadze has hit a new low with the radio station dragging Chivadze to court for defamation.
Details of the P 5 million lawsuit are expected to make for an interesting hearing in a Goliath and David type of court battle as Yarona FM sues Chivadze for allegedly insinuating that the station stole the Yarona FM Music Awards (YAMAS) logos from him and spreading a negative perception that YARONA Fm was a thief that had exploited him.
Yarona FM Lawyer Mpho Makati has confirmed that the case between the station and their former Feel Good Foundation (FGF) show host is coming to court on February 25th for the setting of trial dates.
