Migori MCAs on Thursday, May 6, refuted claims that Majority Leader Ken Ouma and chief whip Kevins Keke were ousted because they are People’s Democratic Party (PDP) sympathisers.
County Assembly Speaker Boaz Okoth said out of 41 MCAs from ODM, 27 signed for the removal of the two.
The duo’s removal came after ODM MCAs served the speaker with a report containing the changes they wanted to be made.
According to Okoth, ODM MCAs resolved to elect Owiyo as Majority Leader and his East Kamagambo counterpart Nyawade as the assembly’s chief whip.

A row is brewing between Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) and their leadership over plans to withhold 30 per cent tax on the car grants the ward reps were awarded in bid to sway them to endorse the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill (2020).
This came as counties started effecting the payments amid growing criticisms from MCAs who believe the tax is exorbitant and unfair.
The grant was promised by President Uhuru Kenyatta during a meeting at the Sagana State Lodge.

A lobby group has petitioned Homa Bay County Government to ensure prudent use of public funds on various development projects.
Homa Bay People’s Voice (HOPEVO) forum has questioned the improper implementation of development projects in the county between 2018/19 and 2019/20 financial years.
The lobby group comprising more than 200 people marched to the office of Governor Cyprian Awiti and the office of the county assembly clerk on Thursday to present their petition.
In the petition, they are questioning a number of multiple allocations of funds to given development projects, incomplete projects and non-existent projects.

Migori County Speaker Boaz Okoth has said the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) bill will sail through in the assembly.
Speaking on Tuesday when he addressed the media in Migori town, Okoth, however, said the assembly will have to go through due process before they pass the bill.
The assembly on received the bill on Monday and will be tabling it for debate on Wednesday.

KISUMU, KENYA: A phone vendor Mary Atieno and Grace Anyango knew their mobile phone shop was about to be demolished when they got a call at breakfast from the city authorities to vacate their premises.
Later on a Tuesday evening last year, the city bulldozers arrived to flatten everything in the name of makeshift structures on the streets of Kisumu. Theirs was among them.
Located in a park near Akamba bus station, the phone vendors were part of a huddle of small shops and cafes that formed over 200 makeshift shopping centres declared illegal by the city and razed down.
