Saulteaux First Nation among those receiving national housing funding

The Saulteaux First Nation is among several First Nations getting funding to build affordable housing.
In total, $17 million will be given out across several of Saskatchewan’s First Nations, including Saulteaux. The money, part of the National Housing Strategy, was announced Thursday by the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development Ahmed Hussen at a conference in Regina.
Construction will begin on 84 homes immediately, spread across Saluteaux First Nation, Beardy’s & Okemasis First Nation, Big River First Nation, Kahkewistahaw First Nation, Kinistin Saulteaux Nation, Lac La Ronge Indian Band, Muskoday First Nation, Waterhen Lake First Nation, and Witchekan Lake First Nation.

The federal government is putting $17 million into developing more affordable homes on Saskatchewan First Nations.
Announced by Minister of Families, Children and Social Development Ahmed Hussen on Thursday, construction is to begin immediately on 84 units in various First Nation communities across the province. Communities include: Beardy’s and Okemasis, Big River, Kahkewistahaw, Kinistin Saulteaux, Lac La Ronge Indian Band, Muskoday, Saulteaux, Waterhen Lake, and Witchekan Lake.

“Our investments will go a long way to effectively support those who need it most by quickly providing new affordable housing units to vulnerable individuals and families,” said Hussen in a news release.
