Columbus-area districts plan for high enrollment in summer school classes

As the school year winds down, central Ohio school districts are looking ahead to summer programs to give students extra learning opportunities amid an unprecedented year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. For Columbus City Schools, that means a chance for students to be among their peers and educators in-person for four days a week something that hasn t happened in more than a year.  “This is an opportunity for our students to get back in the buildings, to get back to some normalcy,” said Emma Corbin, principal of Ecole Kenwood French Immersion School on the Northwest Side and one of the administrators leading the summer programs. “This is an opportunity to bring stability to the lives of many of our learners.”

Due to the rapid rate at which youth’s bodies develop, kids in impoverished communities are often forced to go without appropriate shoes or barefoot. This leaves them vulnerable to soil-transmitted diseases and parasites which can become fatal if not treated. To prevent this, Lee designed a fitting solution – The Shoe That Grows.
