Keokuk, IA- A southeast Iowa museum featuring artifacts from the first dam built across the Mississippi River will reopen as soon as next month. The Keokuk-Hamilton Dam Museum in Keokuk was initially opened in 2019 but was forced to close due to the pandemic. Kirk Brandenberger, executive director of the Keokuk Area Convention and Tourism Bureau tells Radio Iowa that during the short time after its opening, the museum had visitors from multiple different states and foreign countries. "People are waiting for it to be back open, again, so they can come to see it and learn more about the lock and dam," he says. "A lot of people have a connection." The museum opened again in 2021 but was closed again due to a nearby building being condemned. The condemned building was demolished, and the site was cleared.
