South Korea's HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering plans to develop a small modular reactor for use in shipping in cooperation with the UK's Core Power and the USA's Southern Company and TerraPower.

A memorandum of understanding has been signed between Lloyd's Register, Zodiac Maritime, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering and Kepco Engineering & Construction for the development of nuclear-propelled ship designs, including bulk carriers and container ships.

Grants from the Federal Railroad Administration will fund high-speed passenger rail projects from North Carolina and Virginia to California and Nevada.

Preparatory groundwork is set to begin for the construction of units 3 and 4 of the Shin Hanul nuclear power plant following the approval by the South Korean government of the project's implementation plan. Construction of the units is expected to begin next year when a construction permit is set to be granted.

A ceremony has been held at Doosan Enerbility's factory in Changwon, South Gyeongsang, to mark the start of production of the main components for units 3 and 4 of the Shin Hanul nuclear power plant. Construction of the units - plans for which were suspended in 2017 - is due to begin next year.
