KOCHI: Intelligence Bureau and Kerala Police have started to dig into Kerala connections of All Ceylon Makkal Congress leader and parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen after he was arrested by Sri Lankan Police on April 24 in connection with April 2019 Easter Sunday attacks that killed 279 people and injured hundreds.
While the specifics of the links which Bathiudeen had in Kerala are yet to be revealed, the agencies will be looking into the inputs on his visit to Kasaragod in 2009 and also his acquaintance with a few religious leaders in Kerala, who had met him in Sri Lanka and also when he toured India especially Chennai when he was Sri Lanka’s Minister for Industry and Commerce in 2013.

A violation of ‘unlock’ norms, says CM Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said here on Monday that the closure of border roads by Karnataka, citing rising COVID-19 cases in Kerala, amounted to a violation of the ‘unlock’ guidelines issued by the Centre. The State government would seek the Centre’s intervention to lift the border restrictions, he said while chairing a COVID-19 review meeting. Pointing out that vehicles from Kerla were being intercepted at the border, he said officials were demanding COVID-19-negative certificates based on RT-PCR test.
“Karnataka has agreed to waive the condition only for vehicles transporting essential goods after the Kerala State Police Chief talked to his counterpart in Karnataka. We will reach out to the Karnataka government and the Centre to resolve the issue,” he said.

There is a fresh plea, this time in the Kerala High Court, asking for online gambling and wagering platforms or real-money gaming platforms depending on what state you are in be regulated and monitored. Filed by one Pauly Vadakkan, a film director, the petition pleaded the Kerala HC to declare online betting and gambling, particularly online rummy, unlawful and illegal. The plea also asks for direction to the Kerala state government to ban these online betting or gambling “of any nature” until an appropriate regulatory regime is established and regulations are framed by the state government.
The petition was filed on January 12 by Vadakkan’s lawyer Jomy K. Jose.
