Michael Matuszak represents the first chief operating officer appointed at Farmers National Banc Corp., the holding company for The Farmers National Bank of Canfield.

With his new role as COO, Matuszak will develop, refine and implement corporate-wide operational strategies and tactics that maximize efficiencies and reporting procedures.

Joseph Gerzina, who helped oversee the community bank's growth in Stark County and segments of Greater Cleveland, will retire at the end of this month. He will be succeeded in the regional president role by banking industry vet William Shivers.

Farmers National Banc Corp. is buying Emclaire Financial Corp. in a deal valued at $105 million. It's the largest deal yet for Farmers in terms of asset size. The combination will grow Farmers to about $5.2 billion in assets with 66 offices in Northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania.

Farmers National Banc Corp. in Canfield has agreed to buy Emclaire Financial in neighboring western Pennsylvania — its first move across state lines.
