COVINGTON, Ga. Georgia Department of Transportation officials announced Monday the replacement of the bridge straddling Henry and Newton counties on Hwy. 81 is set to begin soon.
GDOT District Communications Specialist Kyle Collins told The Covington News that Wright Brothers Construction Co. were expecting to close the Keys Road bridge that passes over the South River on Monday, March 22. A contract was first awarded to the company in August 2020.
McDONOUGH â The âone-way pairâ project in McDonough has reached the finish line.
On Thursday, crews with Pittman Construction of Conyers removed most of the orange and white barrels from the Georgia Department of Transportation project area, enabling drivers to travel the entire eastbound length of the project using Keys Ferry Street/Ga. Highways 20 and 81. The westbound lanes are also open, on John Frank Ward Boulevard/Jonesboro Street from Ga. Highway 81 just west of Lakemont Drive to Rosebud Lane. The new roundabout at Doris Street is also fully functional. Weather permitting, the small section from Atlanta Street to Geranium Drive was expected to be open to traffic on Friday.
