MLB Trade Rumors Ole Miss right-hander Gunnar Hoglund, one of the top prospect in this summer’s draft class, will require Tommy John surgery after exiting last night’s start during the first inning, ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel reports (Twitter link). I’ll admit that I’m still not entirely clear on why draft picks are not tradable in Major League Baseball. I mean, I get why they were originally not tradable – there was a fear back in the ’60s and ’70s that picks would be so unevenly valued by different organizations that some organizations would just throw them away in trade – but that seems just an absurd explanation today, when every single organization desperately loves them some draft picks (and expanded bonus pools). Minnesota Twins place Byron Buxton on IL, call up prospect Trevor Larnach Outfielder Byron Buxton was put on the 10-day injured list by the Minnesota Twins on Friday with a strained right hip. Manager Rocco Baldelli said an MRI showed it to be a Grade 2 strain, and that while Buxton wont need surgery, hell likely be on the IL for more than just the 10 days.
