introduced the hate crimes bill as a young elected official because of the work i did. when i listened to yourics perts, and it was a great show today, i think this, yes, because it was principal cal about these crimes. yes the president is a racist and his rhetoric is horrible. we have to look at what we can do within law enforcement. the fbi director testified last week and said we dote note why there is a rise in hate crimes. we d better figure that out. i have my own theory. number two, up the investigations of these cases and some of it is local law enforcement, helping them, giving them resources. it may not be they re part of a white nationalist group but they start writing things online and putting out kill lists. local law enforcement has to investigate those cases. what s the line on speech? what is the line on speech? what are you concerned about? it s about whether or not you are trying to perpetrate a
government has to prove by clear and convincing evidence that the person is disturbed, a danger to themselves or others. and if that test is met, they can seize the guns and get person the help they need. what i want to do is encourage these laws with robust due process and i think that s the president s goal also. that is the president s goal. that s all the federal government can do is encourage these laws and pay the states to do it. the feds can t order the states to do these things. there are half a dozen states that have these laws now. the neighbor complains. you are using a gun in the backyard and you are angry as you are using it. that is not a basis to take the gun away. that is not a basis to deprive somebody of their rights. brian: would you think an effective tool from this experience would be to make public these records of high school kids with kill lists and i know minors, everything gets buried once you become i have a problem with the word public. the database i
on a school bus he rode the school bus with the shooter and said during his sophomore year, he was on the bus when police boarded the bus, came down the hall of the bus and took the shooter off, arresting him. he disappeared for about a year. eventually did come back to school. it was during that time when this talk about the kill lists came forward. students described him as being very threatening. at one point one girl said he liked to pi e ed to point his f people and pretend to shoot them. this is when he was in his sophomore year. he did graduate in 2013. you said he came back a changed guy. in what way? reporter: according to the students, he came back and seemed to be changed. he was active in the band. he played the baritone. he was in several school plays. i looked at his yearbook. he was prominently featured in
arrested. you, of course, have the lieutenant in the coast guard that had a kill list. and the kill list was of reporters, of journalists, of talk show hosts, of members of the democratic party, leaders of the democratic party, of democratic presidential candidates. and that had a kill list and was actually getting the guns, the weapons, the ammunition that he needed to kill all of those people. fortunately, he, too, was arrested. but not only did the president not condemn those acts, we couldn t get one republican member of congress to condemn those people with the kill lists. so the president knows perfectly well what he s doing. bob costa, it was just like during the campaign, where he told people in the audience that if they had legal fees for beating somebody up, he would pay for it, time and time again, he incited violence.
