Steps toward landfill for DOE demolition debris in Oak Ridge
Oakridger
The U.S. Department of Energy took another step toward a future landfill to store the debris from demolitions and cleanup of its old Oak Ridge buildings.
DOE plans to put this landfill, called the Environmental Management Disposal Facility, in the Bear Creek Valley in Oak Ridge. The nearest residential area, Country Club Estates, is more than 0.8 miles from the central Bear Creek Valley site, while the Scarboro Community is about 3.9 miles northeast of the selected site, DOE stated in a report, adding all nearby communities are separated by Pine Ridge from the proposed EMDF site.
