LONDON MARKET OPEN: Higher start against quiet backdrop in Europe

(Alliance News) -Â A positive start to the week in Asia led onto a green open in London on Monday, though trade was muted with some key European bourses, including Frankfurt, shut for holiday.
The FTSE 100 index was up 12.36 points, or 0.2%, at 7,030.41 early Monday. The mid-cap FTSE 250 index was marginally lower, down just 2.84 points at 22,396.58. The AIM All-Share index was down 0.1% at 1,248.62.
The Cboe UK 100 index was up 0.2% at 701.08. The Cboe 250 was flat at 20,142.72, and the Cboe Small Companies up 0.1% at 14,878.92. Risk sentiment was steady at the start of the new week, with most major Asian equity indices trading higher, albeit modestly, said Lloyds Bank.

(Alliance News) - Stocks in London are set for a higher open on Monday after markets in Asia started the week on the front foot.
However, trade is expected to be muted with financial markets closed in Germany and Switzerland for Whit Monday. In France, the Paris bourse will remain open, however.
In early UK company news, Cineworld burst back from months of lockdown to report a bumper UK reopening weekend, Kainos saw full-year profit surge, and Hilton Food Group said it has seen a strong start to the new year.
With hospitals overflowing, the health system overwhelmed in the cities and a shortage of vaccines, experts have warned India could face a third wave of infections in coming months.
Study Says 2 Doses of CCP Virus Vaccines ‘Highly Effective’ Against Indian Variant
Two doses of CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus vaccines are almost as effective against the Indian variant as they are against the UK variant, England’s health officials have said.
But the protection from the first doses against the Indian variant has been “notably lower” than they are against the UK variant, they said.
UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the study, which hasn’t yet been peer-reviewed, provided “groundbreaking” evidence to prove how valuable the COVID-19 vaccination programme is.
Public Health England (PHE) on Saturday published a preprint (pdf) of its study on the effectiveness of CCP virus vaccines against the B.1.617.2 variant, which was first identified in India.
