The 20th Annual Lamar YâBarbo Memorial Blood Drive will be Saturday, April 24th in Kirbyville.
Lamar YâBarboâ 54â a nine-year Forest Technician/Firefighter with the Texas Forest Serviceâ died on April 7â 2000â of burns sustained on March 13â 2000â when his 4-wheeler overturned and trapped him during a prescribed burn. YâBarbo was Chief of the Kirbyville Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He served with the Fifth Special Forces as a âGreen Beretâ in Vietnam and received two Purple Heart awards.
Lamarâs service to our community was boundless and continues as our community comes together each year to honor him by giving blood donations. Since 2000, over 1,643 units of life saving blood has been collected, making this memorial blood drive one of LifeShareâs largest continuous memorial blood drives.
