KINY Eagles are protected by two federal statutes. Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - After a bald eagle was found shot last week in Juneau, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is offering a $2,500 reward for credible information leading to the conviction of a responsible party.
The injured eagle was found on Klondike Way in the Back Loop Road area of Juneau on Tuesday, Dec. 22. Kathy Benner, with the Juneau Raptor Center, said the eagle was shot with lead, which is illegal to hunt with. The eagle had a gunshot wound, elevated levels of lead, and a broken pelvis.
The Juneau Raptor Center rescued the bird but quickly transferred it to the Alaska Raptor Center in Sitka for advanced care. The eagle was later euthanized.
