Action advised against 200 families for diverting septage waste into Ashtamudi
District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has initiated legal procedures to curb the pollution of Ashtamudi Lake by seeking reports from various bodies on their intervention.
DSLA secretary Subitha Chirakkal had summoned around 15 representatives from Kollam Corporation, district panchayat, Environment Department, State Wetland Authority, Public Works Department, and Suchitwa Mission to discuss the matter.
The action was initiated following a case filed by lawyers Boris Paul and V.I. Rahul from Kollam.

Buildings, infra details to be mapped and stored The Kollam Corporation has resumed GIS mapping and Intelligent Property Management System (IPMS) survey to facilitate technology-based planning. The survey had hit a road block earlier due to resistance from the residents and allegations of data leak, forcing the authorities to stop it temporarily. “The work was not making much headway due to COVID-19. We also had to take a break for local body elections. It was decided to carry on with the survey after a 19-member technical committee, including experts and department heads, assessed its progress,” said officials. At present the drone and GPS surveys for documenting geographic and infrastructural details have been completed along with the web portal.

21-year-old Arya Rajendran, who successfully contested the recent civic polls in Kerala, is set to become the next Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. She will be the youngest ever to occupy the post in the country.
The youngest mayor in the country until now was Sabitha Begum who had headed the Kollam Corporation at the age of 23, reported PTI.
The ruling CPI(M) on Sunday officially declared Rajendran as the party-led Left Democratic Front s mayoral candidate in the election to the post to be held on Monday.

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 28: A 21-year-old graduation student Arya Rajendran elected as the Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation.
On her electoral debut, Rajendran, a second year Bsc Maths student of the All Saints College here, won from the Mudavanmugal ward, defeating her nearest Congress rival by a margin of 549 votes.

It was also the first time she could cast her vote in the local body election due to her age.
Rajendran is a state committee member of the Students Federation of India (SFI) and also the state president of Balasangam, the children s wing of the Left party.
