COVID-19 In Jail: 53 Rohingyas Test Positive

SRINAGAR: Officials stated on Wednesday that 53 arrested Rohingyas tested positive for COVID-19 during a special three-day testing session at a detention centre in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district.

Famous among separatists for his “flawless” oration, Muhammad Ashraf Khan, Sehrai, 77, languishing under Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act (PSA) in Udhampur jail, is dead. On May 4, when Mujahid Ashraf Khan, his son, received a call from jail authorities about the deteriorating health of his father and asking him to come over to Jammu, he would have never imagined that he would return with his father’s coffin. That day, Sehrai had been admitted to a government hospital in Udhampur with multiple ailments. A day later, however, his oxygen levels dropped, deteriorating his condition further. He was also tested for Covid19 positive and it initially was negative. Post-death, authorities declared him Covid19 “positive”.

Image Source: IANS News Jammu, May 5 : Senior separatist leader and chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat group, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai passed away on Wednesday in a government hospital in J&K s Jammu city. Hospital sources said Sehrai had been admitted to government medical college (GMC) hospital Jammu on Tuesday. He was suffering from multiple ailments, he passed away today, sources at the GMC hospital said in Jammu. Sehrai s oxygen saturation level had dropped to 65, but his rapid antigen test (RAT) had come negative. The result of the RT-PCR test is still awaited, same sources said.
