A jury unanimously found Warren Forrest guilty in the murder of Martha Morrison, a 17-year-old from Portland. The first-degree murder trial began last week.
Morning Journal staffer Michael Burich earned honors in the Ohio Associated Press Media Editor’s 2020 Contest.
Burich finished second in the Best Enterprise Reporting category for a story on the late Columbiana AIDS activist Krista Blake and her sister Holly May who does sign language interpretation for the state of South Carolina. His work is described as “a deeply satisfying and interesting story that tells a story behind the story of a person launched into a spotlight. Not your average person feature.”
Former Journal sports writer Chris Rambo finished second in the Best Sports Writer. His work is described as “good writing and good job finding features and other angles amid the pandemic.”
