Santa Barbara Symphony, Santa Barbara Unified School District Present Encore of BRAVO! Program

Gerald Carpenter: Youth Symphony Proceeds With Concerto Competition

By Gerald Carpenter, Noozhawk Contributing Writer | @noozhawknews February 1, 2021 | 4:52 p.m. In the unlikely event that any of our aspiring young virtuosos have been unaware of this, let me take this occasion to remind all of you, and your parents, that the Santa Barbara Youth Symphony, under the sponsorship of the Santa Barbara Symphony, has opened its annual Concerto Competition, a longstanding tradition of providing Santa Barbara County’s finest young musicians the opportunity to be featured as a soloist with the Santa Barbara Youth Symphony. The competition will proceed as in the past, with two major exceptions: 1) for the first time, this event will be virtual, and 2) this year’s competition, normally only open to members of the symphony’s programs, is now open to any student up to age 18, who lives in Santa Barbara County and studies an instrument other than a traditional orchestral instrument.
