Alleged cryptominers plead not guilty to charges of electricity theft

GEORGE TOWN: A businessman and a wireman have claimed trial to six charges each of stealing electricity for bitcoin mining activities. Ang Ming Kee, 35, and Ung Kwan Meng, 40, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read out to them at three separate Magistrate's Courts here. They were charged with fraudulently obstructing several electricity meters owned by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) from recording the actual electricity consumption between June 11 and 12 at six different locations in the north-east district. Ang and Ung were charged under Subsection 37(3)(c) of the Electricity Supply Act 1990 which was read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.
