Each year after the swarms of boaters have left the Torch Lake sandbar following Northern Michigan’s most infamous Fourth of July party, a crew of trash collectors on paddle boards and kayaks take to the water to help the lake recover.

Three men will cross Lake Ontario on standup paddleboards this month as part of an epic 7-year quest to paddle across five Great Lakes.

Three paddleboarders, Kwin Morris, Jeff Guy and Joe Lorenz landed on the shores of Catawba Island, Ohio on the morning of June 19, braving almost 20 hours of headwinds to finish their 24-hour, 70-mile journey across Lake Erie.

The trio paddled with Kwin Morris, their science teacher and Joe Lorenz who are co-founders of Stand Up for Great Lakes an organization dedicated to preserving all lakes. Morris and Lorenz have paddled 4 of the 5 Great Lakes with fellow co-founder Jeff Guy. To help with the send-off, 5 paddlers from Birds Eye Outfitters of Sault Ste.
